Learn more about volunteering with Unique Kidz and Co.
What inspired you to start volunteering with Unique Kidz and Co?
My son was diagnosed with autism aged 3. At the start of the journey we were told about Unique Kidz and decided to visit for one of the free stay and play sessions and we’ve been to almost every one since. Unique Kidz has provided a safe place for Harry to be himself without judgement, all of the other parents are great and the staff have provided much needed advice and support along the way. There is much more on offer as Harry gets older and we feel extremely grateful that this charity exists to be able to give him the opportunities every child deserves.
What are some of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering for you personally?
Seeing the faces of all the children and young adults! I have volunteered at some of the events running stalls and the kids and young adults absolutely love it. Knowing I’m making a difference even if it is only really small is so rewarding.
What’s next for you and your involvement with Unique Kidz and Co?
I am currently raising money doing a skydive where all proceeds will go to Unique kidz and my employer will match all funds raised. This is a great opportunity for me to give something back even if I’m absolutely terrified! I’ll also be volunteering at the Family Band Night helping to raise more funds!
What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering with Unique Kidz and Co?
Do it! You really will be making a difference whether no matter how big or small. These children and young adults may not get some of the experiences without volunteers who can help run activities, stalls or fundraise. It costs nothing to give some of your free time but it might make someone’s day special and that is priceless.
