One Year of Our Toy Library!
Today marks one year since the opening of our first ever Toy Library! Over the past year, over 350 “borrows” have been made from the library and we have supported lots of local families by providing access to specialist toys and equipment that they might not otherwise have been able to use.
Unique Toyz, funded by BBC Children in Need, is a project launched during the Covid-19 pandemic to support families who were struggling in isolation. Any family with a child with disabilities, additional needs or going through a diagnosis can sign up to become a member and access the whole library as often as they would like for free! Since it’s launch it has grown to include over 170 items and runs from Armadillo Storage Unit on White Lund. Due to high demand, the Toy Library offers a click and collect service as well as delivery to help us reach more families.
One family who regularly uses the service said
My family would highly recommend Unique Toyz. We were able to start using this toy library before we even had a formal diagnosis confirmed. As I don’t drive, it has been invaluable for me to have items delivered to and collected from our front door. My daughter looks forward to new things arriving each fortnight. This is usually sensory items and we’ve borrowed all sorts including a sensory black out tent, fibre optic lights, weighted items and fidget toy. We have also ordered other items like a guitar and a huge Connect 4 game which was a lot of fun.
My daughter really benefits from lots of sensory experiences and she could not have had access to such a wide variety of equipment/items had we had to buy it all ourselves. Thank you Sarah & Unique Toyz!
Unique Toyz is celebrating it’s 1st birthday with a party at Unique Kidz and Co.’s Stay and Play group on Wednesday 2nd February at 10am where all are welcome!
